A Halton police officer, with lights flashing and sirens blaring, was repeatedly ignored by a Burlington driver who was too busy talking on the phone.
Police say the incident took place just before 9 a.m. yesterday (Aug. 22) near Fairview St. and Guelph Line.
Reports say the driver was on their way to work and was so wrapped up in conversation that they didn’t realize the officer was trying to pull them over.
“(The driver) fails to stop for police and continues driving to work 2 blocks away,” Halton police stated on social media channels. “Ignored cruiser lights and sirens behind them.”
The result was a $615 ticket for being on the cellphone, a $490 ticket for ignoring the officer and a $325 ticket for having an expired driver’s license. The total fines amount to $1,430.
In cases such as this, police don’t release the name of the driver.
