Flag honouring residential school survivors will fly at Halton Catholic offices

A flag that honours residential school survivors and all the lives and communities impacted by the residential school system in Canada is being raised at the Catholic school board headquarters this week.

Representatives from Oakville, Milton, Halton Hills and Burlington will be at the raising of the Survivors’ Flag at the Catholic Education Centre in Burlington to commemorate First Nations, Inuit and Métis residential school victims and Survivors.

Sherry Saevil, Halton Catholic District School Board’s Indigenous Education Advisor, will be at the ceremony, and will be joined by three residential school survivors, Roberta Hill, John Elliott and Bud Whiteye.

The flag raising is taking place at 802 Drury Lane in Burlington at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. The Board’s Chaplaincy Leader, Gillian Federico, will be leading prayers.
