Final phase of construction on Tremaine Rd./Hwy. 401 interchange about to start

The long-awaited project to build an interchange at Tremaine Rd. and Hwy. 401 in Milton is finally nearing completion.

According to Halton Region, which is in charge of the project, the final phase of improvements to Tremaine Rd. (Reg. Rd. 22) from Steeles Ave. (Reg. Rd. 8) to Campbellville Rd., in Milton are underway.

Improvements will include:

  • New interchange at realigned Tremaine Rd. and Hwy. 401 including a new carpool parking lot
  • Top course paving of realigned Tremaine Rd. from Steeles Ave. to No. 3 Side Rd.
  • Resurfacing of old Tremaine Rd. from No. 3 Side Rd. to south of Hwy. 401
  • Demolition of the existing Tremaine Rd. bridge
  • New multi-use pathways and bike lanes
  • New Street lighting and landscaping
  • Installation of storm water management infrastructure

Construction is anticipated to be completed by December, 2026.

The previously constructed new Tremaine Rd. from Old Tremaine Rd. to No. 3 Side Rd. will remain closed until the highway interchange is constructed and operational.

To help you plan ahead for construction activity, the Region has sent out project-related information. Wherever possible, mitigation plans will be put in place to minimize disruptions.

  • Direct access to your driveway may be restricted for short periods of time.
  • There may be increased levels of dust and mud near the work site. The contractor is required to manage these impacts.
  • No changes or delays to mail delivery is anticipated.
  • Night work may be required as part of this project.
  • You may experience noise as a result of Regional improvements.
  • This work may cause traffic delays, lane shifts or lane restrictions. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.
  • You will notice occasional increases in truck traffic around the ongoing work. Please be aware and use extra caution while driving.
