Family activities, live music, fireworks all on tap for Oakville’s Canada Day celebrations

Oakville is throwing a birthday party and you’re invited.

Celebrate Canada’s 156 birthday with some family-friendly entertainment and fireworks as Canada Day festivities return to Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park on Saturday, July 1.

The national holiday event is open to residents of all ages and will feature a day-long list of activities for the family, live entertainment, food trucks and then top it all off with a “dazzling” nightime fireworks display.

“Council and I always look forward to Canada Day, a celebration that brings our neighbours, friends and community together,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. “I encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on what it means to be Canadian and the important role each and everyone of us play in creating an inclusive, diverse and equitable community.

“May we continue to find more ways to connect with each other and contribute to a thriving and vibrant Oakville.”
The party gets started at 6 p.m. and features a great night of music performances with artists including Chris Patterson, Arlene, Anthony Tullo and Oakville born and raised band, Lonely Hearts.

There will also be plenty of other entertaining acts with Edward the Juggler, Canada Rocks Aerial Show, Rob Testa Magic, hula hoop artists and stilt walkers all on hand.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of interactive activities to participate in, including arts and crafts, horticultural planting, sports and games.

The park also has a dedicated reflection space for attendees to take a moment and reflect on what it means to be Canadian, and the importance of Truth and Reconciliation.

At 8 p.m. a bag piper and drummer will welcome dignitaries followed by the national anthem performed by Arlene. The grand finale of the night will be a beautiful display of fireworks beginning at 10 p.m. weather permitting.

The Town of Oakville is also willing to help you get to the event by offering free Oakville Transit shuttle services to and from Bronte GO Station.
The shuttle service begins at 5:30 p.m. and runs every 10 minutes. Residents are being reminded that road closures will be in effect, and there will be no event parking available onsite.

The last shuttle to the park leaves from Bronte GO Station at 9:30 p.m. Return shuttle service to Bronte GO Station will begin once the fireworks display has ended.
