Emergency crews battle large grass fire in Burlington

Firefighters are on the scene this afternoon (Aug. 30) battling a grass fire in Burlington.

According to reports, the fire is burning in the area of Brant Street and the QEW.

Drivers along the QEW say large clouds of black smoke can be seen for long distances and is slowing traffic through the area as some motorists stop to take a look.

Several crews from the Burlington Fire Department have been called to the scene.

There is no indication of injuries at this time.

The cause of the grass fire is not known but in the past, similar incidents were reported to have been started by sparks from passing trains. There has been no indication that is the case in today’s fire.
