Drugs and weapon charges filed following fatal crash in Burlington, Ontario

A police investigation in Burlington that ended with a truck rollover and the death of a man has led to several drug and weapon charges.
The incident began on Jan. 29 of this year when police pulled over a vehicle for speeding just before 4 a.m.
Then, according to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which at the time had taken over the investigation, “two Halton Regional Police Service officers stopped the driver of a truck for speeding on the Queen Elizabeth Way at Guelph Line. The driver fled. The officers came upon a collision at the Brant Street off-ramp. It was the pickup truck.”
All four people in the truck were thrown from the vehicle during the rollover and a 26-year-old subsequently died while the others were taken to the hospital for treatment.
A quantity of fentanyl and cocaine, along with a firearm were located at the crash site.
Now, nine months later, police have filed charges:
Preet Dhami, 25, of Brampton was arrested and charged with the following:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl)
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
- Two counts of possession of identity documents (2 counts)
- Fail to comply with probation order
Dhami was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
Mustafa Ta’amneh, 46, of Mississauga is currently in custody on unrelated charges. On October 25 Ta’amneh was arrested and charged with the following:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl)
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Careless use of a firearm
- Weapons trafficking
- Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order
- Fail to comply – being on a release order
Ta’amneh was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Nitish Oberoi, 34, of Brampton was arrested and charged with the following:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl)
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death
Oberoi was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
