Drivers surprised by new stop-sign beacons installed around Milton

If you’re driving around Milton and see a large red light on top of a stop sign, don’t worry.
It’s all part of a Town initiative to gauge their effectiveness.
“As Council continues to prioritize traffic safety, the Town has begun the Stop Sign Beacon Pilot Project, which saw a stop sign beacon installed at one all-way stop intersection in each ward,” said Rob Faulkner, a Town spokesperson.
“The four stop-sign beacons installed last week are located at the intersections with the highest reported right-angle or turning movement collisions in each ward.”
The red lights are powered by a small solar panel and are located at:
- Ward 1: Pine Street and Commercial Street
- Ward 2: 5 Side Road and Boston Church Road
- Ward 3: Clark Boulevard and Bennett Boulevard
- Ward 4: McLaughlin Avenue and Farmstead Drive
“Staff will collect data during the two-year pilot to determine if there were noticeable safety impacts at each intersection. A report will come to Council for consideration and possible next steps.”
