Driver leads police on high-speed chase through Burlington park

A wild chase though a Burlington park Friday morning ended with a man in custody and facing two dozen charges.

Shortly before 9 a.m. on Friday, March 8, Halton police said officers responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on Fairview St., in the area of Sherwood Forest Park in Burlington.

When they go there, officers said they saw a blue Honda Civic, which immediately fled the scene driving dangerously through the park grounds, on walkways and pathways, in an effort to evade police.

Police searched the area and located the suspect vehicle at the intersection of New St. and Appleby Line, where they safely stopped the vehicle and took the suspect into custody.

Two police vehicles sustained minor damage during the chase, however no injuries were reported.

Nikolas Claros, 37, of no fixed address, has been charged with multiple offences, including:

  • Flight from peace officer
  • Operating a vehicle while impaired
  • Possession of automobile master key
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Unauthorized possession of weapon
  • Possession of narcotics, including methamphetamines, cocaine, and fentanyl

Claros is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
