Talking on a handheld cellphone while driving is never a good thing and for one Oakville driver on early Tuesday (Aug. 29) morning it could prove rather costly.
A driver is facing a fine of $615, losing three demerit points and a three day suspension of his licence if convicted after Halton Regional Police pulled them over while conducting Operation SafeStart.
Police allege they saw the driver talking on their cellphone while driving and have charged them with driving with a hand-held communication device.
“It’s never a good idea to talk on a cellphone while driving, but during Operation #SafeStart when officers are conducting traffic enforcement it’s a really bad idea,” said Halton police on social media.
The police post on the site formerly known as Twitter drew praise.
“Good catch,” said one person.
“This operation and the noisy car one are easily my favourite. Keep it up,” added Stefan Rees.
