‘Disrespect’ earns Burlington teen driver fine and suspension

A teen driver pulled over in Burlington has been fined and faces a license suspension over what police say was disrespectful behaviour.

Halton police say the driver was stopped yesterday (Oct. 25) around 6 p.m. on Walkers Line at Country Club Dr.

Officers say they observed that the driver was texting and FaceTiming (online video chatting) while driving.

“No excuse for this disregard and disrespect for the community,” Halton police said.

A ticket of $615 was issued and the 19-year-old driver faces a 30-day driver’s license suspension upon conviction.

In Ontario, “distracted driving” is defined as the improper use of handheld communication and or entertainment devices while behind the wheel. It is illegal to operate cellphones to talk, text, type, dial or email.

This applies to whether you’re driving, stopped in traffic or waiting at a red light, it is illegal to: Operate cell phones to talk, text, type, dial or email.
