Despite lifesaving efforts, a three-year-old has died after being pulled from a backyard pool during a private gathering at a residence in Oakville last night.

On Saturday (May. 27) shortly after 7:00 p.m., paramedics were called to an address near the intersection of Speers Rd/Third Line in the Town of Oakville after a three-year-old boy was reportedly removed from a backyard pool without vital signs.

According to police, a celebratory gathering of several adults and children was held at the private residence and the child had gone underwater and was allegedly undetected for an unknown period of time.

Police say, lifesaving measures immediately began by the adults at the gathering and continued by emergency services personnel upon arrival.

Despite efforts made to revive the child, he was pronounced dead at the hospital, investigators say.

Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has now taken over the case as “all deaths involving children under five years of age become the mandate of police.”

At this time no charges have been laid and police have determined there to be no criminal intent.

However, police and the homicide bureau continue investigations with the help of the coroner.
