A cycling event in memory of an OPP Sergeant is returning to the Town of Milton this weekend.

Greg’s Cycle for Kids is an event that is held annually in memory of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sergeant Greg Stobbart, who passed away in 2006 after being hit by a careless driver while cycling.

The annual events are hosted by the Share the Road Cycling Coalition, which was founded in Stobbart’s memory.

Greg’s Cycle for Kids is an organization that prides itself in proving the community with an opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life by giving them “the gift of freedom, independence and healthy habits” that come from having and riding a bicycle.

The annual events aim to create bicycle-friendly communities with partners and community leaders, pass road safety legislation and work to make roads safer.

Through a partnership with BGC Hamilton-Halton, proceeds from the event will be used to purchase bikes, helmets, and locks while also providing cycling instruction for children in priority neighbourhoods.

“Join us at Greg’s Cycle for Kids and help us make the dream of owning a bike a reality for children in Halton Region and Hamilton,” reads the organization’s website.

This year’s event will take place on Oct. 2 at Country Heritage Park.
