The City of Burlington and Halton Region have released a timeline for work that will be carried out in a Burlington neighbourhood, a project that many residents oppose.

Most of the work will centre on Bromley Road but the project will also affect Brewer Court, Verhoeven Road and Broughton Crescent.

The joint project between the city and the region will begin next month but will continue into 2025 and 2026.

Work will include installing sidewalks, replacing the existing water systems, replacing the road asphalt and putting in new street lights.

Many residents in the area have opposed the installation of the sidewalk and fought against the plan earlier this year. They have argued the area has never had sidewalks and their placement along the street will negatively impact the character of the neighbourhood.

However, local officials are proceeding with the plan saying the sidewalk is necessary based on growing pedestrian traffic and the need to accommodate access to parks, schools, community centres and transit.

Here is the work schedule:

  • October to December, 2024 — wastewater main replacement — Bromley Road from Pineland Drive to Linwood Crescent and on Linwood Crescent
  • January to April, 2025 — wastewater main replacement — Bromley Road west of Bayfield Crescent to Kenwood Avenue
  • Spring 2025 — wastewater main replacement — Brewer Court, Verhoeven Road, and Broughton Crescent
  • Spring to Fall 2025 — wastewater lateral replacement, watermain and service replacement, and street lighting installation — all streets
  • Late-2025 and Spring/Summer 2026 — Installation of sidewalks and road resurfacing — all streets
