Lanes on the Burlington Skyway Bridge will not be closed this weekend.

According to the City of Burlington website, the Aug. 11 to 12 scheduled closure of the Niagara-bound lanes over the Burlington Skyway Bridge has been cancelled.

While no reason was given, Environment Canada is calling for showers with the potential of a thunderstorm in Burlington tomorrow night (Aug. 11).

The scheduled closure was slated to start 10 p.m. tonight (Aug. 11) before reopening Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. The July 28 to 29 closure was also cancelled.

Niagara Fall politicians have been arguing that by closing the bridge on Friday nights, tourism has taken a hit in the popular destination.

However, there are still two announced closures overnight on Aug. 18 to 19 and Aug. 25 to 26. It is unknown if the MTO will add more closures for the necessary bridge repairs.
