If you were planning to do some Christmas shopping at downtown Oakville’s popular Anthropologie location, you’ll have to wait a little longer.

According to the store’s website, the location is temporarily closed and no official reopening date has been announced.

On the store’s voicemail message, a representative says it is closed for maintenance.

Multiple posts on Facebook and Reddit indicate the store has been closed for issues stemming from a fire-related incident.

A notice posted on the shop’s window confirms the fire.

“We are temporarily closed due to a fire.” the notice reads. “Thankfully no one has been hurt but our store does need to recover from smoke and water damage.”

It goes on to thank patrons for their understanding and patience and promises that the store will open “as soon as possible.”

The Oakville Fire Department has also indicated the building is in violation of fire regulations due to blocked stairways, access to extinguishers, and lack of repairs to damaged infrastructure. The fire department advises on how these issues can be corrected.

Anthropologie, located on Lakeshore Rd. E. in the town’s downtown core, is known for its higher-end clothing, accessories and home goods.

The brand operates two other locations in Toronto, one on Queen Street West and another in the Shops at Don Mills.
