Those who rely on the elevators at the Burlington GO Station will likely have to catch the train at either Appleby or Aldershot later this month.

Metrolinx says the elevators at the Burlington GO, at 2101 Fairview St., will be closed for several months for upgrades which will force some commuters to the other stations. However, GO will offer a shuttle service for those with accessibility issues to the Appleby and Aldershot stations.

According to Metrolinx, the work is necessary as the elevators are old and need to be upgraded. They will close for the work on October 26 and are expected to re-open early in 2021. The work will affect both the north and south platforms.

During the work the elevator in the parking structure in the north lot will still be operational.

Customers who need an elevator can request an accessible shuttle service from Burlington to the other stations by registering with GO Transit through the contact centre at www.gotransit.com/en/contact-us.

Metrolinx says the elevator upgrades at the Burlington GO Station is needed because they are getting close to the end of their lifespan and the new ones will be more reliable for customers. The current elevators have been running since 1994. All of the elevators will be affected.

Burlington commuters are no stranger to construction as the station underwent a significant facelift that was completed in 2018. That work did not include elevator upgrades.

As part of the same construction work, a new secure bike room at the station will be built. That work is expected to be completed in time for next year’s cycling season.
