Choir! Choir! Choir!, the acclaimed musical experience that started at a birthday party and has grown into an international phenomenon, is coming to Burlington.

Started in Toronto by musicians Daveed Goldman and Nobu Adilman at Clinton’s Tavern in Toronto, the concept invites all those who show up into a traditional choir setting that works toward a live performance of a chosen song.

Golman and Adilman will be on hand to lead the performance on Nov. 15 at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre (BPAC).

As described by those who repeatedly return to take part in Choir! Choir! Choir!, the event allows participants to “let loose” and sing their hearts out but within the confines of the structured leadership of the founders.

For the Burlington performance, the group will be handling the music of ABBA.

“Equal parts singing, comedy, and community-building, the night unfolds like a dream: you get a lyric sheet at the door, DaBu teaches you the vocal arrangement, and a video is recorded. Everyone has a ball and goes home feeling great,” according to the BPAC description of the experience.

As mentioned, the format was only planned as a one-time birthday party event but has since evolved into regular events in Toronto with packed houses of singers eager to lend a voice.

Golman and Adilman have also taken the show on the road appearing with audiences at Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Massey Hall, The Juno Awards, Parliament Hill, National Arts Centre, Luminato Festival and the Polaris Music Prize Gala. As well, guest singers such as David Byrne, Patti Smith, Rufus Wainwright, Rick Astley, Tegan and Sara, Bruce Cockburn, Kathleen Edwards, Colin Hay (Men At Work), Joel Plaskett, Sarah Harmer, and Chris Murphy (Sloan) have taken part.

Showtime in Burlington is 8 p.m.
