Ontario, Oakville, Olympics, Paris, Canada soccer, women's team,

The Town of Oakville is inviting citizens to a free watch party Sunday afternoon (July 28) to cheer on Canada in its opening women’s soccer match against France at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Done in partnership with the Oakville Soccer Club, the free viewing party will be held at the Pine Glen Soccer Centre, located at 1520 Pine Glen Road.

The Canadian women will look to begin defense of their 2020 Olympic title when play kicks off at 3 p.m.

Canada defeated Sweden 3-2 in penalty-kicks in the gold medal final of the 2020 Tokyo Games to win their first Olympic title in women’s soccer.

“Bring a blanket and some friends and take a seat in the bleachers at Pine Glen Soccer Centre,” said the Town of Oakville.

Those planning to attend are reminded that chairs, food and drink are not allowed.

While the event is free, those attending are asked to consider bringing a non-perishable food donation to support Oakville’s local food banks. It’s best you arrive early to ensure a spot as the facility only has a capacity for just under 500 people.

Doors open at 2:30 p.m.
