Local soccer fans will be able to come together at the Oakville Soccer Club to cheer on Canada at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Town of Oakville, in partnership with the local soccer club, will be hosting free viewing parties for each of Canada’s three Group F games at the tournament set to begin with the Group Stage play on Sunday, Nov. 20.
“Let’s come together as a community to show our support and help cheer on Team Canada in their quest to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar!,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton.
Bell Media, which is airing the World Cup, has granted the Town permission to air the games on the soccer pitch at the Oakville Soccer Club, located at 1520 Pine Glen Rd.
Residents are asked to bring a lawn chair and a blanket to put underneath the chair to help preserve the indoor turf.
No food or drinks will be allowed on the turf.
“OSC is so excited to be Oakville’s World Cup headquarters,” said Katryna Indewey, Executive Director, Oakville Soccer Club.
“We can’t wait to cheer for Canada with our amazing community. See you all on the field!”
Fans can cheer on Canada in the following match ups:
- Canada vs Belgium on Wednesday, November 23 at 2 p.m.
- Canada vs Croatia on Sunday, November 27 at 11 a.m.
- Canada vs Morocco on Thursday, December 1 at 10 a.m.
While the event is free, fans are being asked to bring a toy donation to support the upcoming Oakville Professional Firefighters Association Toy Drive.
With a capacity of just under 500 people, local soccer fans are encouraged to come early to ensure a spot.
