A driver going almost twice the speed limit on a rural Burlington road was nabbed by police this morning (March 1).

A notice posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), says Halton police pulled over the driver on Cedar Springs Rd. at Number 1 Sideroad (just north of Dundas St.) at 6:45 a.m.

Officers said the aggressive driver was clocked at 117 km/h in a 60 km/h zone and was caught when the vehicle zoomed past an unmarked police cruiser.

At just two lanes on Cedar Springs, the speeding vehicle had to go into the lane where oncoming traffic would be to get around the cruiser.

“Residents in the area would not be expecting a car on the wrong side going twice the speed limit,” police said. “This kind of driving causes serious collisions.”

The offending vehicle was pulled off the road and the driver now faces various fines.
