A four-day burn ban for Milton residents has been lifted. Burn permits are still required for outdoor fires.
Milton Fire & Rescue Services issued the ban Thursday with winds gusting 30 km/hr. The ban was lifted Monday.
Burn permits are required whether you are having a contained backyard fire or burning brush. Brush fires, which allow you to burn certain types of yard clippings and green waste, must be in a fire pit or barrel/drum that is no larger than 1.2 metres in length, width and height.
The fire must also be at least 15 metres away from:
- Buildings and structures
- Property lines
- Trees
- Hedges
- Fences
- Roadways
- Overhead wires
- Other combustible objects
Outdoor container fires are restricted to between the hours of dawn and 1 a.m. and must be in a container no larger than two feet in length, width and height. Only clean, dry wood can be burned and the minimum distance from the fire to structures and other combustibles is five metres.
On Agricultural lands the distance required is expanded to 30 metres and the fire cannot be greater than three metres high.
Residents can complete the burn permit in person by booking an appointment at (905) 878-9251 ext 2803 or by sending an email.
