A burn ban is now in effect in Halton Hills, one that could have an impact on fireworks planned as part of Diwali celebrations.
The ban was imposed early this afternoon (Oct. 31). because of the high winds in the area.
The ban means that effective immediately, all open-air burning including fireworks is not allowed. The town-wide ban also includes those who have approved burn permits.
It is not yet known how long the ban will last, but it could impact Nov. 1 Diwali celebrations that use fireworks if the sanctions carry on until tomorrow.
In Halton Hills, Diwali is one of five special days in the year when family fireworks are allowed to be lit on private properties without a permit.
This year, residents planning to discharge fireworks in celebration of Diwali were asked to do so only on Nov. 1, a date that aligns with other municipalities.
The Halton Hills Fire Department warns that those failing to comply with the ban can be fined.
