A scam involving a fake pizza purchase that also led to the discovery of a gun has resulted in criminal charges against two people.

According to Halton police, the incident unfolded yesterday (Sept. 13) in the lot located at 4515 Dundas St. around 10:30 p.m.

According to reports, a male and a female, in a vehicle with a Domino’s Pizza sign, approached the victim and asked him if he wanted to buy a pie.

The victim accepted the offer and was told that he could pay with a debit card.

Police allege the couple secretly switched the card with a fake one and was able to capture the victim’s PIN number on the payment device.

After the purchase was made, sensing that something wasn’t right, the victim called police.

Officers who arrived on the scene found the couple and after a brief investigation determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Toronto. A follow-up search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded handgun.

A 20-year-old male from Oakville and a 16-year-old female from Toronto now face the following charges:

  • Possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been removed
  • Possession of a restricted firearm and ammunition
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Fraud

The male is being held pending a bail hearing while the female has been released pending a court appearance.
