Natalie Pierre says she won’t seek re-election in the next provincial election.

The MPP who represents the riding of Burlington in the Ontario Legislature, announced yesterday she won’t be running again for the Conservatives and instead will step down at the end of her current term.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to represent Burlington at Queen’s Park and to work with Premier Ford and the Ontario PC caucus to deliver results for my community,” Pierre wrote in a statement.  “After careful consideration, I believe the time is right to step aside. My commitment to our community will not waiver and I will continue to work hard and serve the people of Burlington for the balance of my term.”

Elected for the first time in 2022, Pierre defeated Liberal Mariam Manaa by 7,000 votes and succeeded Conservative Jane McKenna who held the seat twice, from 2011 to 2014 and then again from 2018 to 2022.

Pierre currently holds down several positions within Premier Doug Ford’s government, she serves as deputy government whip, parliamentary assistant to the associate minister of mental health and addictions, parliamentary assistant to the minister of sport, and is a member of the standing committee on social policy.

Although the next provincial election is not scheduled until 2026, there is speculation that Ford could call an election next year.
