Burlington MP Karina Gould has taken over a new post on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau named Gould as government house leader, taking over from Mark Holland (Ajax) who has moved over to become minister of health.
As government house leader Gould will be responsible for planning and managing the government’s legislative program in the House of Commons, in other words, it will be her job, as a senior cabinet minister, to take care of business and make sure the government’s agenda is carried out.
Gould had been serving as Minister of Families, Children and Social Development since October of 2021 until today’s cabinet shuffle.
First elected in 2015, Gould has held several positions in cabinet including Minister of International Development, Minister of Democratic Institutions, and President of the Queen’s PRivy Council for Canada. She is the youngest woman to serve as a cabinet minister in Canadian history.
The 36-year-old Gould was born and raised in Burlington and attended M.M. Robinson High School. She earned degrees at both McGill University and Oxford University.
