Burlington hockey player will represent Canada at World’s in Finland

Although the season of his Montreal Canadiens is over, Burlington’s Josh Anderson will continue to lace up the skates.

Anderson has been named to the Canadian men’s hockey team competing at the World Championships in Finland beginning Friday at 1:20 p.m. EDT.

Canada will be facing Germany in first-round play with future group games against Italy, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Denmark and France over the next two weeks.

Traditionally, because of the timing, the Canadian team is made up of NHL players whose teams did not qualify for the playoffs, as well as the occasional player from a European league.

In addition, the roster can be bolstered by players from teams that exit the playoffs quickly.

Anderson, 28, will be making his first appearance on the men’s national team.

The right-winger played 69 games for Les Habs this year, with 19 goals, 13 assists and 65 penalty minutes.
