Burlington Economic Development was awarded gold and silver for its Power BI Data Presentation and 2017 Annual Report respectively. The honour was presented at an awards ceremony Tuesday during the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Annual Conference, which was held from Oct 13 to 16 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“Our team is thrilled to be awarded two Excellence in Economic Development Awards,” said Burlington Economic Development Acting Executive Director Anita Cassidy. “The international recognition for these two projects is a testament to our team’s determination to provide open and available data, as well as share Burlington’s story.”

Receiving a silver in the Annual Report category, Burlington Economic Development’s 2017 Annual Report highlights key data points and celebrates business success through infographics and creative visual presentation of text. View the Report here.

The Power BI Data Presentation received a gold in the Digital Media category for its unique illustration of key economic information.

“Burlington is a vibrant community full of thriving businesses” said Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward. “These two projects are just some of the incredible examples of tools the Burlington Economic Development staff use to attract and educate residents and businesses.”

IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development Awards recognize the world’s best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials, and the year’s most influential leaders. 34 award categories honour organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban, and rural communities. Awards are judged by a diverse panel of economic and community developers from around the world, following a nomination process held earlier this year.

“The recipients of IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development awards represent the very best of economic development and exemplify the ingenuity, integrity, and leadership that our profession strives for each and every day,” said 2019 IEDC Board Chair, Tracey McDaniel. “We’re honoured to recognize more than 100 communities for their excellent work, which forges new opportunities for our profession. We look forward to even greater participation from economic developers across the globe in the 2020 awards program.”

IEDC received over 400 submissions from 12 countries.
