One of the victims of a recent vicious dog attack in Burlington has died.
Sources familiar with the June 6 incident on Caplan Cres. say the 76-year-old woman died in hospital on Friday (June 16) as a result of the injuries sustained in the attack.
The woman’s husband also suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital. A neighbour who tried to help required medical attention but was not hospitalized.
Halton police officers who arrived at the scene shot and killed the dog when it couldn’t be brought under control.
The dog, described as a large pitbull, was staying at the home of the couple.
“An officer attempted to subdue the dog using a Taser (several times) however that was not successful. Given the severity of the incident and risk to those at the scene, the officer fatally shot the dog and ended the attack,” according to information supplied by police at the time.
Police have said there is no criminal investigation involved in the incident.
In 2005 Ontario banned the ownership of pitbulls but Doug Ford relaxed many of the regulations when he came to power under pressure from breeders and animal rights activists.
The woman and her husband were known to be classic car enthusiasts, according to the source, and have many friends in car collecting circles in Southern Ontario.
