Burlington Butter Tarts Market crowns Orono’s BETTER Butter Tarts as Best Overall

An Orono baker continues to rack up the accolades on the Ontario butter tart circuit, winning Best Crust and the coveted Best Overall prizes at the Burlington Butter Tarts and sweet Treats Market on the weekend.
BETTER Tarts earned the same honours last month in Barrie and also took home the Best Crust/Best Overall combo a year ago at a butter tart festival in Pickering. With a raisin butter tart at the heart of BETTER Tarts lineup – (“raisin for the win,” BETTER Tarts owner Lisa Filion said of her blue-ribbon win in Barrie in July), the Orono bakery has quickly become a fan favourite on the Gotta Luv Butter Tart festival tour.
Burlington residents certainly got to satisfy their sweet tooth at the festival, held inside Burlington Centre on Guelph Line, with other winners including Omni’s Sweet n Treats for Best Filling, Butter Tart Bliss for Best Non-Traditional Butter Tart and The Bake Shop on Main for Best Presentation.
The free event was a celebration of the uniquely Canadian butter tart.
The Burlington festival, as well as competitions around the province, are all part of the Ontario Butter Tart Trail festival tour that leads fans of Canada’s quintessential treat to the best butter tarts around.
The Ontario championships are held in Midland every year.
