This year marks Burlington’s sesquicentennial, 150 years since the name was adopted and came into existence as a village.

It was in 1973 when the communities of Wellington Square and Port Nelson merged to become the Village of Burlington which eventually grew into a town (1914) and then a city (1974).

And, while many things have happened in Burlington during the past 150 years, today we can look back fondly with some new swag.

Burlington 150+ branded t-shirts, caps and pins are now available for sale.

Items can be purchased at the City’s Visitor Information Centre located at 414 Locusts St. near City Hall. The Visitor Information Centre is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You will also be able to buy the items from Tourism Burlington ambassadors when they are stationed at Spencer Smith Park, 1400 Lakeshore Rd.

Caps and T-shirts are available for $10 and the lapel pins are $5.

Cash, debit and credit card payments are accepted at the Visitor Information Centre, while cash-only payments can be accepted to purchase items from the Ambassadors in the park.

The branded logo — or identifier as the City likes to call it — was “designed to capture the complexity and beauty of the land and the people” and incorporates many aspects of Burlington’s life and history.

Here is a breakdown of the design.

  • The logo uses four shapes and colours to represent Burlington:
    • Green represents nature and the land.
    • Yellow symbolizes unity and our multicultural community.
    • Light blue symbolizes freedom to live in peace and harmony
    • Orange represents a commitment to Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation.
  • The plus symbol is in recognition of the Indigenous history of the land that goes beyond 150 years. It honours the diverse Indigenous peoples that have lived in this area and acknowledges that Burlington is on the Treaty Lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

The quantity of the gear is limited.
