Developers are moving ahead with plans to build a townhouse block on the site where a suspicious fire once took place.

The location is 759 Maple Avenue and the proposal calls for a four-unit townhouse building of four storeys.

The project is currently under review by City of Burlington planning staff and will have to go through the process of a public meeting and city council approval before it can come to fruition.

It was in July of 2021 when the existing house was gutted by a fire that at the time was determined to be suspicious.

The damage to the structure was set at $250,000 but was determined to be no longer habitable. At that time the house at been recently sold.

Since then the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has investigated the blaze but has not publicly released the report and no charges have been filed in the case.

According to documents submitted to the city, issues raised at an earlier public meeting concerning the height of the structure, privacy measures and landscaping have been addressed in the recent development application.

The application also notes that this infill project calls for two parking spaces per unit (one garage space and one driveway space), and two visitor parking spaces.

A private road off of Maple Avenue will allow access to the townhomes.
