Skateboarders looking for a new skate park to enjoy over the next few weeks of summer can officially check out the Cornwall Road Sports Park skateboard facility.
The new skate park, which was given the go-ahead by town council in 2021 with a budget of $250,000, opened on Aug. 21.

According to the town’s website, the park’s infrastructure was originally slated for installation in the fall of that year under the assumption that it would feature a pre-fabricated system that would be assembled on site overtop a flat concrete pad.
After the project was approved, residents expressed concerns about the design, prompting the parks and open space department to launch a user survey. Respondents said they’d prefer a cast-in-place concrete skateboard facility instead of a pre-fabricated system.
Users also said they’d like to see a bowl, grind box, two quarter pipes of different sizes, an island, grind rail and waves included in the final project.
A final design was chosen in 2022, but the project was not completed until this year due to COVID-related delays.
The new park is located between the west baseball diamond and the Cornwall Road and Watson Avenue intersection. Other Cornwall Road Sports Park amenities include two hardball diamonds, a washroom, a playground and walking trails.
