Burlington Hydro tree trim cut

Burlington Hydro will continue to cut and trim trees this fall in certain areas of the city.

Neighbourhood boundaries that are next up in the cutting program are:

  • Brant Street, Fairview Street, Guelph Line and Lakeshore Road
  • Brant Street, Dundas Street, Walkers Line and Upper Middle Road

The work is part of the regularly scheduled tree-trimming program and is deemed necessary due to the risk posed by certain tree species to critical overhead power lines, according to Burlington Hydro.

“This crucial maintenance helps maintain reliable service by minimizing the risk of tree branches interfering with powerlines,” a notice on Burlington Hydro’s website reads. “As trees mature, the likelihood of outages increases, particularly during storms. By addressing this now with trained arborists, we’re working to ensure reliable power and enhance the safety of our powerlines.”

The tree trimming program is carried out on a rotating three-year schedule that eventually covers all of Burlington. Tree limbs that come in contact with power lines are a frequent source of electrical outages, especially during storms.

Burlington Hydrom says residents are notified by a hand-delivered letter usually a week or two in advance of tree trimming activities in their neighbourhood. This maintenance work is followed by a clean-up of related debris, costs of which are covered by Burlington Hydro.
