The city of Burlington is working to improve the accessibility, safety, multi-use, active transportation, and connectivity of the Francis Road Bikeway.
As a result, some big changes are coming to the bikeway.
According to the city of Burlington’s website, a four-metre-wide paved surface will be installed, in addition to more gradual slopes (less than four per cent), trailhead signs, benches every 150 metres, garbage cans, as well as bollards and curb ramps at intersections.
The trail will be closed from June until September 2019 for construction.
The project, as noted by the city, is partially funded by the Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling Program.
A rendering of the completed project, which includes the accessible benches, vehicular access garbage cans, and more, can be viewed below.
The city of Burlington became a bicycle-friendly community back in 2016 and received a silver rating from the Share the Road Cycling Coalition.
