Students in Burlington, Milton, Oakville and Halton Hills head back to school in less than two weeks and one of the local school boards has put out a thorough ‘need to know’ list.

Posted on its website, the Halton Catholic District School Board is welcoming students back for the 2024-25 school year with a list of reminders.

“We look forward to welcoming students back to school for another exciting and productive year at HCDSB,” said John Klein, director of Education.

“With a focus on achieving, believing, belonging and becoming, our schools provide educational experiences to support every learner while cultivating schools and workplaces that are safe, inclusive and welcoming. I look forward to working closely with our staff, parents, and community to make this school year a successful one for all.”

Here are some of the highlights local parents and students should know.

The school year will begin with a Professional Activity (PA) Day on Tuesday, Sept. 3. This means that there is no school for students on this day.

PA Days are designated for activities that include professional development for educators and staff, evaluation of student progress, consultation with parents/guardians, curriculum and program evaluation and development.

The first day of school for students in Grades 1 to 12 is Wednesday, Sept. 4. Parents/guardians of students entering Year 1 and Year 2 Kindergarten will receive information about the staggered entry process and/or orientation interviews from their schools.

Elementary class placements for the upcoming school year will be accessible as of 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30. Parents and guardians can access their child’s class placement through PowerSchool by using their child’s Office 365 email and password.

Please note that class lists may change up to and including the first two weeks of September due to student enrolment changes that may necessitate additional staffing adjustments. As a result, no class changes will be considered until after the second week of September.

Grade 9 timetables will be available at each school’s Grade 9 Orientation Day. Grade 10-12 timetables will be available beginning Friday, Aug. 30, at 11:00 a.m.

Students will be able to access their timetable through PowerSchool using their Office 365 email and password.
