Simcoe police Burlington drugs

A Burlington man has been charged with drug crimes after being found slumped over the steering wheel of a car parked in the driving lane of a road near Hwy. 400.

South Simcoe police say they were called to a road in the area near the interchange of the highway and Line 5 in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury south of Barrie around 11 p.m. on Sept. 20. following reports that a motorist was stopped in one of the lanes.

“Initial reports indicated that a male was slumped over in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle in a live traffic lane,” police said.

Police, fire, and paramedics all arrived on the scene and woke up the man.

To rule out impairment of alcohol, police said a roadside test determined the man had not been drinking. As well, an evaluation found that the man was also not impaired by drugs.

However, as a result of an investigation, a 41-year-old man from Burlington was charged with possession of drugs and driving while suspended. His vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The name of the man has not been released.
