So we’ve got bad news and good news: a popular Oakville restaurant has closed but a very hot dining option has moved in.
So we’ve got bad news and good news: a popular Oakville restaurant has closed but a very hot dining option has moved in.
Residents and visitors who frequent downtown Oakville are probably aware of a) how gorgeous the Lakeshore Rd. E. stretch is and b) the challenges facing small business owners in the area.
Maluca, and its French-inspired fare, opened in 2012, offering fine wine and specialty cocktails, plus some impressive charcuterie and cheese boards, fried olives, and frites.
Flooding closed Maluca at 142 Lakeshore in early 2017.
About a month ago, Bru, which was next door at 138 Lakeshore, moved in, though you’ll still see the familiar orange Maluca signage. (It has the same owners, with Seasons and Corks also in the portfolio).
And there’s still no Wi-Fi … (so put your devices away and talk to each other!)
But now there’s more space in the back, and, depending on where you’re seated, you can see the chefs at work.
Speaking of the kitchen, some classic Maluca menu items are still being served at Bru, such as the renamed Crispy Cauliflower (with chilli honey, toasted sesame seeds, and scallions — formerly known as General Tso Cauliflower), Kale and Quinoa Salad (with black kale, agave dressing, pomegranate, whipped goat cheese, puffed quinoa, candied walnuts, and grapes), Gluten-Free Fish and Chips, Steak and Frites, plus The Brisket that’s smoked in-house (featuring honey bourbon BBQ sauce, corn, and pickles, seen below).
And they’re still serving the Vegan ‘Butter Chicken’ Curry (with fried tofu and jasmine rice).
The 138 Lakeshore space is expected to remain open through Christmas into 2018, and is currently being used for private parties.
In the meantime, don’t be alarmed if you head to ‘restaurant row’ and see the signage.
We’ll keep you posted with any updates and new developments.
