More traffic disruptions will take place through Burlington and Hamilton as construction work continues.
The Burlington Canal Lift Bridge, already going through extensive repairs that have led to reduced lanes, will now be closed completely every night next week as more maintenance work is undertaken.
According to Public Services and Procurement Canada, the operators of the bridge that carries Eastport Dr. traffic across Hamilton Harbour, the planned full lane closures will take place from Sept. 11 to Sept. 17 starting from 8 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. the next morning.
The closures will affect all vehicle and pedestrian traffic in both directions.
Next week’s closures are aside from the ongoing work on the bridge that has seen regular lane closures throughout the summer.
Various forms of construction and maintenance on the bridge are expected to continue until the end of the year.
Constructed in 1961, the 381-ft bridge is the sixth bridge to span the canal since 1830. The lift allows vessels to enter and exit Hamilton Harbour into Lake Ontario.
