Oakville MP Anita Anand has added the role of Transport Minister to her official duties with the federal government.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau handed Anand the position after longtime cabinet minister Pablo Rodriquez announced he was quitting as Transport Minister to run for the leadership of the Quebec Liberal Party (QLP).

The Treasure Board President was sworn into her new role at a ceremony Thursday afternoon (Sept. 19) at Rideau Hall.

“I am honoured to take on the role of Transport Minister in addition to my current role as President of the Treasury Board,” said Anand in a tweet on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). “I’m looking forward to the work ahead.

“To my friend and colleague (Pablo Rodriquez), thank you for your service of over 20 years, and for your mentorship. And to the Prime Minister (Justin Trudeau) – thank you for your continued trust in me.”

Rodriquez’s decision to step out also left the Liberal government without a Quebec lieutenant. The title will now be filled by Minister of Procurement Jean Yves Duclos.
