If you want to catch a glimpse of Oakville in a new Adam Sandler movie, now is the time to do it.

You Are SO Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah!, the film adaptation of Fiona Rosenbloom’s 2005 young adult novel, is premiering today (Aug. 25) on Netflix.

The film has a unique Oakville connection. Parts of the movie, directed by Sammi Cohen and produced by Happy Madison and Alloy Entertainment, were shot at Film.Ca Cinemas, a local theatre on Speers Road.

The movie features Sandler and his real-life family, including his wife, Jackie, and their two daughters, Sunny and Sadie.

The movie also stars Luis Guzmán (Boogie Nights, Shameless, Wednesday) and Idina Menzel (Rent, Frozen).

The well-known Billy Madison and Uncut Gems actor was in town last summer to film the project.

Additional scenes involving Sandler were also filmed in Mississauga, Milton, Brampton and Toronto.

According to Netflix, the film follows lifelong best friends Stacy (Sunny Sandler) and Lydia (Samantha Lorraine), who have long dreamt of epic bat mitzvahs. When popular boy Andy Goldfarb (Dylan Hoffman) and Hebrew school drama come between them, things don’t quite work out as planned.

The movie is now available for streaming.
