As excellent a student as Seflora Egatsi is, she works just as hard volunteering and giving back to the community in Oakville.

That dedication in the classroom and leadership in the community is why Egatsi is one of 355 students across Canada and the U.S. named the recipient of a Foresters Competitive Scholarship on Wednesday (Oct. 2).

The $2,500 scholarship is granted to those who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their contributions towards charitable activities within their communities and have consistently excelled academically.

“It’s an honour to celebrate Seflora for her outstanding contributions to her community,” said Foresters Financial President and CEO Matt Berman, of the annual scholarship offered to members of Foresters and their spouses, children, and grandchildren. “Seflora embodies the values that are at the heart of Foresters, and we are thrilled to recognize her dedication and achievements.

“This scholarship is a testament to her hard work and commitment, and we look forward to seeing all that she will accomplish in her academic journey.”

Egatsi, who has chosen to attend the University of Toronto this fall, earned her scholarship due to academic achievement and time spent volunteering at GN Global Education, Jeunesse Yemba, Mackenzie West All-In-One Medical Clinic, and Carassauga.

The scholarships can be awarded for up to four years for students pursuing undergraduate study at accredited two or four-year colleges/universities or vocational/technical schools.

More than $1,200,000 in Canadian funds has been awarded to this year’s 355 recipients– 115 of whom are attending Canadian institutions.

Since 2012, Foresters has awarded over 9,939 tuition scholarships internationally, an investment of more than $27 million.
