A public roadmap for the future of Oakville's budget has just been revealed

Details surrounding Oakville’s upcoming 2025 budget process have just been released. 

With the next major Budget Committee set for next Tuesday, October 22, 2024, municipal officials have provided a public roadmap on what will be discussed concerning the town’s piggy bank over the coming months. 

Budget concerns and propositions that will be reviewed next week include: 

  • Changes to existing fees surrounding transit fares, recreation program fees, building permit fees and parking rates. 
  • Cost estimations for the enforcement of Oakville’s  Building Code Act.
  • Cost estimations for the enforcement of Oakville’s Planning Act.
  • Community concerns about imposing or changing existing or new fees. 

The meeting will also include updates on existing building permit fees and applications.

Town officials have also noted that conclusions surrounding 2025 rates and fees will be implemented upon approval from council members  — with key dates set for

  • November 4: Councillors and staff budget consultation sessions.
  • November 12 and 14: Councillors to receive public delegations concerning the budget committee. 
  • November 28: Mayor’s response to committee recommendations
  • December 5: Special Council meeting where the proposed 2025 Budget will be revealed to the council and public.
  • December 12: Special Council meeting surrounding public delegations on Mayor’s proposed budget. 
  • December 19: Special Council Meeting surrounding final considerations on the proposed 2025 Budget.

Municipal authorities have indicated that those who wish to provide any feedback or community insight on the Budget Committee at Oct. 22 meeting can do so by emailing the Town Clerk by the Oct. 21 deadline.
