You can still take preventative steps to stop COVID-19.
Halton Healthcare will hold an immunization clinic in Burlington this week to assist you in keeping up with your shots.
The clinic will be held Friday, July 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 1200 Brant St. unit A2.
Ages 6 months and older are eligible for the vaccine.
The clinic is available for walk-ins or you can also book in advance at halton.ca/COVIDvaccines.
According to Halton Healthcare, COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective in preventing severe illness and death from the COVID-19 virus. If you have questions about whether the COVID-19 vaccine is right for you, speak to your healthcare provider or access information from reliable and trusted sources.
Here is some more information to help you make a decision on whether you need the vaccine:
Primary doses
- Most healthy people need two doses to complete a primary series. Those who are moderately to severely immunocompromised(external link) are recommended to get a third dose to complete their primary series.
- Note: Paediatric Pfizer for children 6 months to under 5 years of age requires three doses.
- In most cases, doses are recommended eight weeks (56 days) after a COVID-19 infection or previous dose.
Booster doses
- Booster doses help restore protection from COVID-19 and emerging variants.
- People over the age of 65 and certain people at higher risk of severe COVID-19 illness(external link) are strongly recommended to get their booster this spring season.
- Everyone aged 5 and older who have not yet received a booster dose since September 1, 2022, should get one as soon as possible.
- Recommendations for people who are not high-risk and have already received a booster since September 1, 2022, will be available closer to fall 2023.
- Complete the online Booster Dose Eligibility Checker(external link) to find out when you should get your next dose.
Types of Vaccines
- All COVID-19 vaccines authorized in Canada are proven safe and effective. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) continues to recommend mRNA vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna) for all eligible groups(external link).
- There is no preferential recommendation between Moderna bivalent COVID-19 boosters or Pfizer bivalent COVID-19 boosters for individuals 18 years of age and older.
- Halton Region Community Immunization Clinics do not offer the Pfizer vaccine for children six months to under 5 years of age. Please contact a local pharmacy(external link) or your primary care office for this vaccine.
- Select pharmacies or healthcare providers may offer other Health Canada-approved vaccines, such as Novavax. Please contact locations directly for availability.
