5 Places to Enjoy Autumn in Milton

Milton is green – though it’s slowly turning orange! – and has many well-preserved outdoors destinations to offer for residents and visitors alike. Whether it’s a day with the family or just an outing with friends, we’ve got you when it comes to finding things to do. Maybe it’s time to get back to nature? Here are 5 parks and conservation areas you can enjoy this fall.
This conservation area, located in the southern region of Milton, has lots to do for family and friends. There’s hiking, 17 sites for group camping … which is absolutely stunning with the clear skies (look out for constellations!), rock climbing to get your adrenaline pumping, geocaching, and trails to relax and recuperate. It’s easily one of the best places to escape to in Ontario, and it’s in our own backyard!

It’s just 10 minutes away from Rattlesnake Point and the parks are connected. But the fall colours at Crawford are something else; bring your camera to take in the red, yellow, and orange! Try the Moccasin Walk, look for Turkey Vultures, and play guessing games with carvings. There’s history here … if you’re not feeling super active then you can learn about the Iroquoian people and their village. You can learn about the autumn harvest. Other than that, there’s great spots for picnics (with blankets, of course), and the scenery is gorgeous.

Here’s another beautiful location for great outdoor experiences, located southwest of Milton by Hwy. 401. Make a day of your trip with chairlift rides to take in the fall colours, or hike it up. Better yet, kayak or bring your mountain bike! The Escarpment and Lime Kiln (there’s Second World War history there) trails are no bike zones. You can enjoy the trails until Nov. 15. After that, check out Hilton Falls.
Address: 5234 Kelso Rd.
The Hughes family has been delighting Milton residents and visitors for decades. The farm is situated in the centre of town and the farm isn’t just great for succulent fruits and food festivals, it’s a fun option to entertain the kids. The Harvest Festival is taking place each weekend this month (including Thanksgiving Monday) from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Take a wagon ride alongside the Niagara Escapement or visit barn animals. Be sure to taste the preserves before you leave!

1. Hilton Falls Conservation Area
The falls, the river, the reservoir. Take in history via the Mill Ruins, or take your workout outdoors! This park is located by Hwy. 401 so it’s easy to get sporty with friends and family with the many biking and hiking trails. There’s also a bon fire area by the falls to warm up and perhaps sip some apple cider. Remember to bring blankets, marshmallows and hot dogs!
