A roof that leaks at a Milton elementary school is chief among the repairs and upgrades that are planned by the Halton Catholic District School Board in the upcoming year.
The board will spend $900,000 to fix the roof at Guardian Angels Catholic Elementary School on Bennett Blvd. in Milton.
A report presented to the board showed the roof at the school was installed in 2004, but during a survey of schools in 2019 it was found that many leaks have started to appear at Guardian Angels and that repairs should be a priority.
“Without replacement of these roofing sections, maintenance costs will increase for both the roofing system and the resulting damage to the interior building spaces due to roof leakage,” the report reads. The money that will be spent will go towards replacing the entire roof at the school.
Meanwhile, at Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School on Main St. E. in Milton, $300,000 will be spent to replace the rubberized track that was installed in 2009.
At St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School on Bronte St. S. in Milton, $500,000 will go towards replacing the artificial turf field. The report says the original field was put in place in 2013 and is getting worn out.
A new artificial turf and track will be installed at Christ the King Secondary School on Guelph St. in Georgetown. The original turf and tack was installed in 2011 and the total new area, which will be installed in 2013, will cost $1 million.
